A Lemonade Stand for SLP!

It is never too early to foster the spirit of giving in your children. One way to start is to purchase a moon jar to start the conversation about spending, saving and sharing. I purchased one for my five year old daughter. I love all the great conversations we have about where to donate the “share” portion of her moon jar. Will it be “save the rain forests” this month, St. Lawrence Place or will she decide to donate to our local animal shelter?

Thank You to Race for the Place Volunteers

Posted by: Jessica Malovic

Recruiting Race for the Place 5K & Fun Run volunteers is not always as easy as it sounds. Honestly, who wants to wake up early (really early!) on a chilly Saturday to stand in the cold for hours? St. Lawrence Place is fortunate to have a large dedicated volunteer base. If you participate in the race, I hope you notice the same smiling faces cheering you on each year. We add a few new faces to our Race for the Place volunteer list, but the majority brave the cold every year.

Are you looking for a great family friendly volunteer opportunity? Come out and volunteer at the 5th Annual Race for the Place to help support the homeless families and programs of St. Lawrence Place!  You can choose from a variety of volunteer opportunities: work the course (direct participants and cheer them on!), work a water stop, help with registration, collect participant chips at the end of race, or come help set up and break down. Sign up to volunteer at eventbrite.

Holiday Shop 2013

Posted by: Jessica Malovic

Last Monday, December 9th, was our 2nd Annual Holiday Shop where St. Lawrence Place residents selected one educational gift and one fun gift for each of their children.  Adults can also choose a gift for themselves, and leave the event with a basket full of cleaning supplies.  It is amazing to see the overwhelming support of our community come together to provide gifts for our residents.

This event would not exist without the support from groups like Eastminster Presbyterian Church, Trenholm Road United Methodist Church, Sales & Marketing Council of the Home Builders Association, KD’s Treehouse, St. Martin’s In the Field Episcopal Church, North Trenholm Baptist Church, and countless others.

Volunteers were on-site to help residents select gifts, wrap them and gather their gifts to go home.

We would like to send a special thank you to Arbra and Pastor Lewis of First Calvary Baptist Church for hosting the Holiday Shop and dinner this year. From setting up the shop, to preparing the food, to Santa pictures, to donating gifts; your congregation was wonderful to work with and we appreciate all the hard work that goes into making this day so special.
