The Junior League of Columbia (JLC) is an organization dedicated to bettering the lives of underprivileged children in Columbia. Some of the great things this group is doing include: hosting events for children with special needs, working with Richland One elementary schools to meet the basic needs of students, and addressing childhood obesity.

Kids Create: Halloween Music

A group from USC called Communities in Harmony has been coming to St. Lawrence Place weekly this semester to share music and instruments with the kids in our after school program.  In this brief video, they’re singing a Halloween-version of “If You’re Happy and You Know It.”

SLP Everyday: 3 Month Assessments

During the weeks of September 24th and October 1st, St. Lawrence Place held three month assessments with all the families living in our program.  Three month “check-ins” is a time for each individual family to meet with the Clinical Team (our case managers) and discuss their family’s progress over the past three months and to set goals for the next three months.

Holiday Empowerment

Empowerment: refers to increasing the spiritual, political, social, educational, gender, or economic strength of individuals and communities

Our families at St. Lawrence Place, especially the children, consider SLP home. In fact, with the on-site after-school program, weekly life skills programs, and constant family activities, our families quickly become part of a community, and this helps both adults and children in their journey towards self-sufficiency.
