The Togetherness of Homelessness and Hunger Awareness Week
I started a talk this week by saying if people thought the nonprofits in town didn’t work together; they needed to look around the room. There were representatives from Women’s Shelter (Kathy Riley “raised me” and their ladies work in our internship program), Sexual Trauma Services (they provide staff training and family resources), and Healing Species (they’ve spent summers with our children teaching them important lessons on handling anger) surrounding me. We were all receiving grant funding…and we were all genuinely happy for each other.

Sometimes it’s the little things. Through community partnerships, St. Lawrence Place provides clothing, food, school supplies, furniture, welcome baskets and an abundance of services ranging from tutoring to counseling to our families. These services and supplies enable our families to focus on their most important goal – obtaining skills needed to succeed in permanent housing.

Gift Ideas That Give Back
With the holiday season fast approaching, many of us are searching for gift ideas for family, friends, and co-workers. St. Lawrence Place offers a few ideas for unique gifts that support SLP programs. Fresh-cut holiday greenery livens up your home and brings cheer to those far away. Wreaths and garlands start at just $20 and benefit the SLP Children’s Programs. Orders can be picked up locally at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral the week after Thanksgiving or shipped anywhere in the US. Order Here

St. Lawrence Place families have been invited to participate in Edventure’s Storybook Ball for the second year, Saturday, November 7th! Families are excited to see the kings, queens, princes and princesses as we stroll through the Edventure Castle! Guests will participate in arts & crafts, balloon art, face painting, and enjoy the live animals and performers. Edventure has also dedicated a stage play and a court side dinner for St. Lawrence Place families to enjoy. Everyone is looking forward to Saturday night!
