SLP Class of 2015 High School Grads: Looking Ahead to the Future

Posted by: Charmella Tyler

It is such an amazing opportunity to offer CONGRATULATIONS to some of our outstanding teens on their high school graduations.  Graduation is a major milestone is a teenager’s life, taking that next step into adulthood.  This post made me think back to my own HS graduation, (not important how many years ago), but the mixed emotions I felt: happiness, pride, nervousness, anxiety.  But one thing that was overwhelming, was how proud I was of myself.  Though you may have received support and guidance along the way, YOU each crossed this finish line with the hard work & dedication YOU put in.  Below are some of our celebrated teens:

Share Your Summer Vacation

Posted by: Lila Anna Sauls

A few years ago, after the twins were born, I wrote a blog post (very quickly) from my fancy phone while my family was on vacation at the beach. I confessed to having had spent entirely too much money on scoops of ice cream for my kids on one particular night, and then challenged my St. Lawrence Place supporters to donate a similar vacation-driven amount to SLP if I did the same.

Spring Job Fair Success!

Posted by: Beverly Richbow

Spring is here and that means its Job Fair Season!  Job Fairs are an excellent opportunity for hiring employers and job seekers to meet in one centralized location to focus on the hiring process.

On April 30, 2015, St. Lawrence Place, Richland One Adult Education, S.C. DEW and the S.C. JUMMP Program joined forces to host its first Job Fair at the Richland One Adult Education Building.  This collaboration produced a large turnout of participants and was marked as a huge success!

Over 30 vendors were in attendance to include employers, service providers and 6 area colleges.  Job Seekers from all over the Midlands came with resume in hand, “dressed to impress,” and ready to meet face-to-face with recruiters about open positions, candidate experience, job training and potential employment.

Job Seekers took advantage of the opportunity to fill out job applications on the spot and to have initial interviews with management and learn more about each company’s products and services.

The Job Fair also provided a great opportunity for Vendors to network and form new relationships!  A few of our partners and vendors include Richland One Adult Education, S.C. DEW, Lowe’s, and Helping Hands LLC|Department of Corrections.
