This blog isn’t about how thankful I am you support St. Lawrence Place and our homeless families with children – if I’ve been doing my job throughout the year you should already know that.
This isn’t about your resolutions, my resolutions, or the resolutions of the families currently calling SLP home – we all want to be the best we can be in 2016.
It’s about your year-end donation. That’s right, I’m saying it. Don’t forget to make a monetary donation to our St. Lawrence Place families.
You have a few days left before the New Year, and we’ve tried to make it as simple as possible for you. Click HERE to DONATE online, or mail a check to our offices at 2400 Waites Road, Columbia, SC 29204 – and even if it arrives after January 1 (but your check is dated before), we’ll be sure you get what you need to make the IRS happy. The power of Empowerment during Homelessness and Hunger Awareness Week
During this Homelessness and Hunger Awareness Week, November 14-22, let’s take a moment to reflect on what we are thankful for, and take time to share our compassion with our neighbors experiencing homelessness, many due to flooding.
South Carolina ranks 42d overall in terms of homeless children based on economic well-being, education, health, family and community factors. St. Lawrence Place served almost 100 children last year through our literacy-based children’s program, in addition to others from Family Shelter and the surrounding neighborhood. This ranking is a statistic that Midlands service providers, like St. Lawrence Place, aim to improve dramatically.

Sometimes it’s the little things. Through community partnerships, St. Lawrence Place provides clothing, food, school supplies, furniture, welcome baskets and an abundance of services ranging from tutoring to counseling to our families. These services and supplies enable our families to focus on their most important goal – obtaining skills needed to succeed in permanent housing.
And sometimes a partnership comes along that provides two much-needed items: money and food! READ MORE
