With the weather changing so often, it’s hard to tell that Fall is finally here! With Fall comes pumpkins, colorful leaves, hot cocoa, cozy sweaters and Fall festivals! Falling in line behind our recent Back to School Bash (check out my previous blog post)
, St. Lawrence Place had its inaugural Fall Festival on October 13th.
The weather was just right for food, music and fun games outside in the SLP courtyard. We indulged in all the favorite fall festival foods; nachos and cheese, hot dogs, corndogs, orange punch and endless popcorn! Volunteers from student groups at USC, such as Project Vida, came out in huge numbers to have fun with our kids as they enjoyed horseshoes, miniature golf, hula hoops, football toss, can toss and a cupcake decorating booth. The Richland County Sheriff’s Department came out with their mascot, EMS brought out an ambulance for residents to tour and the fire department brought a shiny, red fire truck. We also had an indoor Fun House with games, a cake walking contest and tons of prizes.
It wasn’t only fun and games, though. We always look for ways to incorporate fun and education at SLP. Several agencies came out and set up tables with resources to educate our clients on what is available to them in the community. We would like to thank the Columbia Urban League, Eau Claire Cooperative, USC Psychology Services, EdVenture and the USC School of Medicine for spending the evening with our families and educating them on local resources.
The end of 2014 is nearing and our next big venture is tackling the holiday season. Watch our blog page for updates on our annual Thanksgiving and Christmas events, see you all soon!
