On July 17th, the teens at St Lawrence Place held a carwash to raise funds for future activities. The event was a resounding success, raising $230.00. This could not have happened without the hard work and effort of the teens, SLP staff, and those of you who stopped in for a quick vacuum and wash. We would like to send out a huge thanks to all those who made this event a success. And please forgive us if I failed to recognize anyone.
On July 24th, the Teens traveled to College Columbia to meet with Dr. Vida Mingo, a professor in Biology to discuss the impact of higher education in pursuing a successful career. In the picture below Dr. Mingo is discussing with the teens about what careers they want to pursue and how going to college can impact those career opportunities.
Here Dr. Mingo and the teens are taking a tour around the beautiful campus of Columbia College. The picture below is in front of McNair Hall, named for the owner of the Houston Texans and University of South Carolina graduate, Robert McNair. Go Koalas and Gamecocks!
The teens had to opportunity to visit Dr. Mingo’s laboratory where he teaches his courses. During this visit Dr. Mingo created a small science exercise for the teens, and he provided them with a fact sheet that about the impact a college education can have on your future success.
We would like to give a warm thanks to Dr. Mingo for taking time to spend with us!
