Football season is back, it’s getting darker earlier and our morning temperatures are lowering, I guess it’s safe to say fall is in the air!  Which means we are gearing up for new programming with our Adults and Teens at SLP!

After a summer of resident presentations, where we gave our adult residents an opportunity to hone their public speaking and creativity skills by creating an innovative presentation to share with their peers, we are now ready for another season!

We will begin our fall Adult Life Skills classes by offering Financial Literacy Courses by C& H Financial Services, a presentation on Mental Health Awareness, and start reading our fifth book as a part of our “By the Book Book Club!” We are excited as this will be our first time reading along with the Junior League of Columbia!  Moreover, the residents will have an opportunity to learn alongside with their children through a series of health and safety workshops.

We will also foster community relationships through our fall festival!

Our teens are back in school for the 2014-2015 Academic Year and are extremely excited for a new beginning! Many participate with band and other sports in addition to attending our weekly Teen Life Skills Programming.  This fall, our teens will attend a class through EdVenture along with their parents, participate in programming presented by the South Carolina Campaign to Prevent Teen Pregnancy and Pressley House Leading Youth Towards Excellence (PHLYTE). In addition, our teens will begin reading their first book as a part of their book club!

Fall 2014 promises to be packed with loads of activities for our residents and teens!  We are excited and grateful for all community partners and volunteers that make these events possible. I can’t wait to share all the fun with you!
