SLP Career Center in Action

Posted by: Tyra Jefferson

St. Lawrence Place Career Center recently invited community partners to talk with our families about their services during agency spotlight days.

The agency spotlight events take place in our new Career Center.  Three community agencies have participated so far. Families dropped in to discuss their individual concerns and learn about other opportunities.

Dress for Success promotes the economic independence of disadvantaged women by providing a network of support and professional attire. They will partner with St. Lawrence Place to provide clothing assistance to individuals entering or remaining in the workforce.

The Columbia Housing Authority promotes affordable housing for low to moderate-income individuals and families in Columbia and Richland County, while promoting self-reliance and improving clients’ quality of life.  Angela Anderson has been supporting St. Lawrence Place for the past year through mini-workshops to assist families with employability and career readiness.

Richland One Adult Education promotes educational and learning opportunities to help support self-sufficiency in our community. St. Lawrence Place partnered with Richland One Adult Education to host a Job Fair a couple of months ago and have continued to partner with them to benefit our clients through the  Career Center. They will be conducting mini-workshops on Work Keys, GED, and other services.

Thank you to Richland One Adult Education, Columbia Housing Authority FSS Department, and Dress for Success for supporting St. Lawrence Place families and staff. Thank you to the agency representatives for sharing their time, talent, and insight-a huge THANK YOU to Angela Anderson, Mary Dawkins, and Wilistine Mitchell-Lagree.
