SLP Teen Self-Portraits at the Columbia Museum of Art

Posted by: Margaret Dubose

St. Lawrence Place has enjoyed a long partnership with Columbia Museum of Art, with the museum providing on-going art education opportunities for SLP children and teens.

This past Monday, the teens traveled to the museum for a three-hour workshop with Jimmy Hiller, Community Programs Senior Coordinator, to work on a creative self-portrait. Using photos, magazine clippings, and sketching, the teens are constructing a “self-portrait” that will make a statement about themselves that they want others to see. Jimmy not only provided insightful guidance as the teens constructed their self-portraits, but the museum also provided lots of pizza – just what teens need when hard at work!

The finished portraits will hang in the CMA Education Gallery beginning in January – SLP can’t wait to see the teens’ finished products hanging in the museum, and we hope you will stop by to check them out as well!
